Employment and Rehabilitation Services

Psychiatric rehabilitation services meet the unique needs of people in recovery leading to improved quality of life through community integration. Magellan's Employment and Rehabilitation Services Department offers supports and services that enhance the living, learning, working and social roles of service recipients.

Employment and Rehabilitation Services

The Magellan of Arizona Employment and Rehabilitation Services Department believes in advancing a recovery-based practice, as outlined by the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (USPRA):

"People CAN recover from even the most serious and persistent mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, major depression or bi-polar disorder. Studies suggest that individuals recover or significantly improve when provided with the appropriate treatments and support systems.  During the last 30 years, an unwavering effort to use more effective and lower-cost alternatives to long-term institutionalization led to psychiatric rehabilitation services.

Psychiatric rehabilitation promotes recovery, full community integration and improved quality of life for persons who have been diagnosed with any mental health condition that seriously impairs functioning. Psychiatric rehabilitation services are collaborative, person directed and individualized. These services are an essential element of the human services spectrum and should be evidence-based. Psychiatric rehabilitation services focus on helping individuals rediscover skills and access resources needed to increase their capacity to be successful and satisfied in the living, working, learning and social environments of their choice.

It is the principle behind numerous evidenced-based practices, such as assertive community treatment and supported employment services, as well as emerging practices, such as peer support programs.  Psychiatric rehabilitation services directly address the high risks that many persons with serious and persistent mental illness experience of repeated hospitalizations, high utilization of emergency room services, low levels of functioning in the community, homelessness and unemployment."

Think Beyond the Label

Think Beyond the Label is committed to making the business case for employing people with disabilities. We are a partnership of health and human service and employment agencies with federal grants; coming together to build a uniform national infrastructure and approach that connects businesses to qualified candidates with disabilities. Their goal is simple: to raise awareness that hiring people with disabilities makes good business sense. Employees with disabilities have unique, competitively relevant knowledge and perspectives about work processes, bringing different perspectives to meeting work requirements and goals successfully. Hiring someone who "thinks outside the box" might be thinking too small when there's an opportunity to hire someone who lives outside the box.  Learn more about this innovative campaign: www.ThinkBeyondTheLabel.com.
