Children's Crisis and School-Based Mental Health Services
Magellan Health Services and ACMHA: The College for Behavioral Health Leadership present Children's Crisis and School-Based Mental Health Services - webinar featuring Mark D. Weist, Ph.D., professor, University of South Carolina and former director, Center for School Mental Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine; and Mark Boorse, mental health consultant for Access Services.
Among the topics discussed: The importance of school-based mental health services, research on evidence-based practice and understanding/improving services for youth in special education, policy directions and resources for school-based services, state of the union: Crisis services in the community and mental health system, how do individuals and families experience crisis?, and basic strategies to address crisis and resources to help.

Interactive Hispanic Town Halls
In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month (May 2010), Magellan of Arizona and Latina TV Network will host a series of four interactive radio and Web TV town hall meetings. The meetings will be conducted in Spanish to increase awareness, reduce stigma and facilitate access to services around mental illness amongst the Spanish speaking Hispanic population in Maricopa County.
The town hall meetings will take place from 12 to 1 p.m., every Wednesday during the month of May at Radio Latina TV Network's Auditorium located at 3830 N.19th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85015; and broadcast live on 1150 AM and Web TV simultaneously thru radiolatina1150am.net. The meetings will include a panel of experts comprised of Magellan staff, psychologist/psychiatrist or clinician, primary care physician, service recipients/ family members and a priest. Understanding the Effects of Trauma webinar
Magellan Health Services and ACMHA: The College for Behavioral Health Leadership present Understanding the Effects of Trauma, a webinar featuring Joan Gillece, Ph.D., Director, National Center for Trauma-Informed Care. The webinar will take place Thursday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dr. Gillece, who has national experience in working with diverse service agencies on developing systems of care that are trauma-informed, will discuss:
- The prevalence of trauma in the lives of children and adults living with behavioral health issues.
- How trauma affects people developmentally, psychologically and physiologically.
- Strategies to reduce the likelihood of re-traumatization.
Adult mental health providers, consumer, parent and family-run organizations, mental health inpatient staff, children's mental health providers, mental health policy makers, and school-based mental health professionals are encouraged to attend the webinar. Magellan of Arizona's Ombudsman Office forum
Magellan of Arizona's Ombudsman Office is inviting behavioral health service recipients, family members, friends, advocates, providers and other concerned community members to come together and plan how to provide personal and compassionate assistance to non-Titled XIX (19) service recipients impacted by the upcoming behavioral health budget cuts and to help them stay connected and focused on their recovery. The meeting will take place Monday, May 17, from 3 to 5 p.m., in the Cottonwood Conference Room, Magellan of Arizona's Administrative Office located at 4129 E. Van Buren, Phoenix. Magellan will host a series of forums held at three peer-run organizations across the Valley to discuss how the budget cuts will impact Maricopa County's behavioral health system. Recipients, famility members and other community stakeholders are welcome to attend to hear a short presentation and then ask questions or share concerns. Please see below for dates and times:

Community Resource Fairs
In May and June, Magellan will host five community resource fairs in Maricopa County for impacted recipients and their families. Magellan's goal is to help connect impacted recipients to resources that are important to their well-being. The fairs will be in areas of the County where the highest concentration of impacted individuals live-the goal is to connect people to resources close to where they live and work. Magellan of Arizona's Shared Governance Board to Address Arizona's Behavioral Health Budget Cuts
Please join Magellan Health Services of Arizona's Shared Governance Board at their monthly community meeting set for Wednesday, April 21, 2010, to learn about Magellan's plans surrounding Arizona's behavioral health system. The Governance Board will address how the State's recent budget cuts, effective July 1, 2010, will impact non-Title XIX (19) services for Adults and Children and Magellan's plans to help in this transition process. Service recipients, family members and community stakeholders are encouraged to attend the board meeting set for this Wednesday, April 21, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Cottonwood Conference Room located on the first floor of Magellan of Arizona's Administrative Office (4129 E.
